It’s a Christian Book sent by a room-mate of mine. It’s sort of a manifesto on the meaning of life, I know no much about the Christian though. The interesting spot of the book is that the author had arranged you a 4o-day task( 40-day spiritual journey), which means the book should be read step by step in 40 days.

Some quotes from the book:

The only time most people think about eternity is at funerals, and then it’s often shallow, sentimental thinking, based on ignorance. You may feel it’s morbid to think about death, but actually it’s unhealthy to live in denial of death and not consider what is inevitable. Only a fool would go through life unprepared for what we all know will eventually happen. You need to think more about eternity, not less.

“The battle for sin is won or lost in your mind. Whatever gets your attention will get you.”

“Don’t ever try to argue with the Devil. He’s better at arguing than you are, having had thousands of years to practice.”

“It is easy to get distracted, because Satan would rather have you do anything besides sharing your faith.”

How to win at College- Cal Newport （《如何在大学里脱颖而出》） 非常好的书，适合大一大二读一下。 [...]

5. The Mary Kay Way- Mary Kay （《

6. Never Eat Alone- Kaith Ferrazzi （《

7. The joy luck club- Amy Tan （《

8. The house on mango street- Sandra Cisneros （《

9. Zeitoun- Dave Eggers

10. crafting & executing strategy

11. The art of the start- Guy Kawasaki （《

What does it take to turn ideas into action?

What are the elements of a perfect pitch?

How do you win the war for talent?

How do you establish a brand without bucks?

12. vault guide: investment banking

13. How to win friends and influence people- Dale Carnegie （《

14. Harry Potter and… whatever- JK Rowling

15. A good hard kick in the ass- Rob Adams （《

16. The law of success- napoleon hill 《

17. show me how

18. Straight from the gut- jack welch （《

19. how to make money in stocks-William O’Neil （《

20. The intelligent investor- Benjamin Graham （《

21. Entrepreneurship 101- Donald Trump

22. Consumer Bahavior （《

23. Delivering Happiness- A Path to Profits, Passion, and Purpose- Tony Hsieh

24. Living history- hilary clinton （《

This thematically arranged reader for first-year composition presents 68 short readings and 47 visuals on provocative contemporary issues such as same-sex marriage, Internet file sharing, and America’s response to rerroriom. Each of seven thematic chapters opens with 2-3 readings that set the historical context for current controversies; the readings that follow offer recent and highly varied perspectives on those topics.

This winter vacation seems to end like a total disaster, the plan of being a teaching assistant at the very beginning has been cancelled by emergency, later on, got no clue about time, thus writing blogs and reading have only been my recreation….

The book tells us a story of how a little girl Dorothy went back to her hometown when she was in another strange city. It was not a fortunate thing that on the way to the Emerald city, where Dorothy could seek help from the Wizard of Oz, she met with many friends, who owned different defects, which in some degree made their approaching journey unsecure, for many of the adventures and hardships they encounter along the way were new.

This fairy tale of adventures teaches me how important it is to have confidence in your self when the difficulties and obstacles approach. Everyone has his or her own shortcomings, and a sledge-hammering sort of merit, as well. It usually counts to find out your strong points when in accident. Scarecrow wants a brain, but actually, he is the quickest one to come up with an idea when emergencies come. Also, the lion, who wants courage, always masters up his courage to give a loud roar, and even to stand out to fight with other monsters when in danger. Manifestly, the biggest adversary are ourselves, someone said they cannot do this, so they can’t. However, if they say they can, just like the singers in American Idol show, they got the chance to prove themselves that they have something to show, even if some of them failed to.

Friendship, which theme I have acquisition of, have made Dorothy’s desire successfully accomplished. Without her friends, Scarecrow, Tim Man, Cowardly Lion, Dorothy would have never been back to Kansas. Maybe, she would be just like a tramp wandering in the tragic magic world. So, a friend is a second self, if you are in a desperate situation, a friend is more than a friend but a soul-mate, in whom you can confide. When talking about this, it reminds me of another thing I met with in the last semester. When I was busy preparing for my speech, I was quite nervous, the dazzling lights gave me the heebie-jeebies, for that was my first time to deliver a speech in such a spacious auditorium. However, when I step on to the stage, a loud cheer and shout overwhelmingly came to my ears, giving me great confidence, I know it came from my intimate and sincere friends, which put me at ease, although the result was not that satisfactory. It was not that all, many superior pioneers give me explicit instruction on improving public speaking, from which I also got touched. And, that was just one small part of life experience to prove how significant it is to cherish the pure friendship.

It is a fairy tale, we can think outside the box to find other interesting themes, though.
